What are your experiences with echolalia? Immediate or delayed...

I do this sometimes. I repeat questions other people ask me. I also have mental echolalia. Questions are usually immediate, but other things (like something I hear on TV) can be immediate or delayed. I didn't even realize that I do this as much as I do. Someone pointed it out to me.

The SLP told me that mental echolalia is a good thing! They're going to teach me how to repeat in my head instead of out loud. The other day my staff said, "Thank you" and I said, "Thank you.... thank you... you're welcome!" Oh well. LOL.

Mine use to be verbal, but now it's more mental. Dunno how that happened.
I have both immediate and delayed.

I tend more toward palilalia, and I repeat things 2-3 times before I realize I'm repeating. It's not that frequent, or at least not as frequent as it used to be.

Is it a verbal stim, maybe?

"Boxes, small boxes"
That's my main echolalic phrase. Most of my echolalia is just quotes but that once is involuntary. It's from a movie I haven't seen in about 10 years.
I think I have echopraxia too. That's when you copy the movements of others? I do that but I also take on their accent, dress style and well whole personality. It's usually a character from one of my favourite shows. For many years it was Harry Potter.

I say "kitty cat" and "Hi, Els" all the time... I think (not sure) the kitty cat is my own words, but the "hi, Els" is my mom's.

I say the same thing to my cats all the time which I got from the way my friend talks to her cats. Some of them are my own words that I just repeat again and again.

Oh, I do have an echolalic phrase: "It's about power." From Buffy. I usually say it as soon as I start thinking out loud/talking to myself, and keep going back to it when I'm trying to gather my thoughts.

"Whoa man! Bullets bounce!"
Yes, through almost nine seasons of Stargate and that's the only quote I get from it.

"Don't be radicchio!" Oh, Food Network (Anne Burrell, in this case).

It's about power." From Buffy. Are you obsessed with Buddy too? I LOVE that show! Ever since it came on when I was 13. I've seen every episode, and still watch the reruns on TV.

Another one: "Not bloody likely." I am about 99% sure I am quoting Spike. When I was unable to talk for a full day not too long ago, I was still able to say "not bloody likely." And yes, I am obsessed with Buffy. Whenever I watch the series I actually talk like the characters to some extent (I remember when I read the scripts for the first four seasons and it completely changed how I spoke for over a year - watching it isn't quite as dramatic). I own both series on DVD, although my nieces lost one of the Angel S4 DVDs, which has created a splinter of frustration in my mind. On Wrongplanet, two of my three avatars were Buffy related.
