My name is Lisa. Mom to a 6year old NT and a recently dx 4 y/o dd with asd.
At the age of 2 we decided to get a speech eval as she had 5 words that no one but us could understand. 6 months later we still had no phone call so i called and learned there was no referral sent. We set up an appt and had the dx of gross speech delay, gross comprehension delay within a month. At 3, we sent our dd to preschool armed with an slp, slpa, OT, EA and coordinating teacher from a funded program. In November i suggested asd...the cordinator was relieved as she had suspicions. In June we were formally dx with asd. Since then, dd has had somewhat of a verbal explosion. She says many words and phrases but its all echoing. Her diet is limited to mr. Noodles and hot dogs. We are meeting with a dietician in october...so excited. We are facing issues with toiletting and transitions and this scares me as she is going to an early learning program in 2 wks along with a dayhome for the first time in her life.
I look forward to talking to each of you! Lisa

Hey, welcome. I'm glad you got your daughter diagnosed early. It may be a trying time but eventually she will develop enough skills to be able to communicate effectively and it's good you realised she had an ASD so soon otherwise she'd be like us disgruntled adults diagnosed late in life. Just kidding. We're nice here. Actually not all of us were diagnosed late. I relate to many of your daughter's habits. It took me a very long time to fix my diet and speak in fluent sentences or actually speak to people. But like I said I was diagnosed late so had to work on all my issues myself.
